Accessibility Statement

1. Our Approach

Accessibility is part of how we design and build the Platform from the start. Our development practices include:

  • Semantic HTML, proper heading structure, and accessible form labels;
  • Keyboard navigation support for all primary interactive elements;
  • Sufficient colour contrast between text and background;
  • Alt text on functional and informational images (with ongoing work to backfill alt text on user-uploaded daycare photos);
  • Mobile-responsive layouts that work across screen sizes;
  • Compatibility with major screen readers (testing prioritized on VoiceOver and NVDA);
  • Captions on video content where used (currently minimal on the Platform).

2. Standards We Aim For

2.1 ZuKeepr is working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA is widely recognized as a reasonable target for general-purpose consumer websites and applications.

2.2 We do not currently claim full conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA. We have not completed an independent third-party accessibility audit, and the Platform is still in beta and evolving. As we make changes, we may introduce new accessibility issues that require subsequent remediation. Where this Accessibility Statement uses the phrase "working toward," it reflects an ongoing effort and not a current state of compliance.

2.3 If full compliance with a specific legal accessibility standard applies to you (for example, the Americans with Disabilities Act in the U.S., the Accessible Canada Act, or your provincial or state accessibility legislation), we encourage you to contact us so we can discuss reasonable accommodations relevant to your situation.

3. Where We Are Today

3.1 Working well today:

  • Most public pages (home, search, daycare listings, blog) are navigable with a keyboard and screen reader;
  • Account signup and signin flows work with screen readers and have accessible form validation messages;
  • Colour contrast meets WCAG AA targets for primary text and interactive elements;
  • Mobile responsive layouts support magnification and zoom.

3.2 Known accessibility limitations being worked on:

  • Alt text on user-uploaded daycare photos is not yet captured systematically. We're adding an alt-text prompt to the daycare photo upload flow as a planned improvement;
  • Some complex form interactions (multi-step application flows, payment authorization) have not been independently audited and may have residual accessibility issues;
  • Our mobile app accessibility is less mature than the web platform's; we are improving both in parallel;
  • We have not yet conducted an independent third-party WCAG audit. A formal audit is on our internal roadmap; we are not committing to a specific public date because we don't want to commit to a date we can't keep.

3.3 If you encounter an accessibility barrier we haven't listed, please tell us (see Section 5). Real reports are the most useful input we have for prioritizing fixes.

4. Assistive Technologies

The Platform is designed to work with commonly used assistive technologies, including:

  • Screen readers (e.g., VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack);
  • Screen magnifiers (e.g., ZoomText, system-level zoom);
  • Speech recognition software (e.g., Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control);
  • Browser zoom, custom stylesheets, and reader modes.

Compatibility varies by feature and version. If a specific combination doesn't work for you, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.

5. Getting Help and Reporting Barriers

5.1 If you encounter an accessibility barrier on ZuKeepr, or if you need help completing a specific task on the Platform, please contact us at support@zukeepr.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line. Please include:

  • A description of the barrier or what you were trying to do;
  • The page, URL, or feature involved;
  • The device, browser, and assistive technology you were using (if known);
  • Your contact information so we can follow up.

5.2 ZuKeepr will provide reasonable assistance to help you accomplish what you were trying to do — for example, by walking you through the task by email or phone, by submitting an action on your behalf where appropriate, or by providing requested information in an alternative format. "Reasonable assistance" means assistance proportionate to the request and ZuKeepr's capacity; we may not be able to provide every conceivable alternative arrangement, but we will make a genuine effort and explain options.

5.3 We will acknowledge accessibility-related contacts within five (5) business days and aim to provide an initial substantive response within fifteen (15) business days. Complex issues may require more time, in which case we will keep you informed of the expected timeline.

6. Continuous Improvement

6.1 Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. As the Platform evolves, we will continue to test, learn, and improve.

6.3 We periodically review this Accessibility Statement to keep it current with our practices and the state of the Platform. The date at the top of this Statement indicates when it was last revised.

7. Third-Party Content and Services

7.1 The Platform integrates with third-party services such as Stripe (payments), Microsoft (Clarity analytics), and Google (authentication). The accessibility of those services is controlled by the respective third parties. We choose vendors that take accessibility seriously, but we do not control their accessibility decisions or implementation.

7.2 Daycare listings, photos, descriptions, and reviews are provided by users of the Platform. ZuKeepr encourages users to write descriptively and to include alt text where supported, but we don't pre-screen user content for accessibility.
